The whole world is in constant apprehension over the delicate development of Ukraine crisis, with the fear of a war conflict between the latter country and Russia which becomes more and more concrete with the passing of the days. While international diplomacy is working to placate this risk, with several Western nations ready to apply sanctions to Vladimir Putin’s Russia, the world of sport is also wondering about what is happening, from European football – thanks to the initial assignment of the Champions League final in St. Petersburg – to Formula 1.
The Circus, in fact, is considering the hypothesis of the cancellation of international events such as the Russian Grand Prix, which would take place in the event that the tensions in the Donbass worsen. A scenario that, however, does not scare the only Russian driver on the starting grid: Nikita Mazepin. The 22-year-old Muscovite, also the son of the president of the main sponsor of the Haas team – Uralkali – does not believe that the Ukrainian Crisis can lead to an effective cancellation of the race scheduled in Sochi, with the latter circuit still hosting his last race in F1: “From the agreements we reached with Formula 1 – commented – the race is not up for debate, and you will surely see me on the track. I do not feel in any difficulty, also because I have always been a great supporter of sport without politics. Today I am in Barcelona for the tests, I cannot tell you how great the emotion is to be able to drive the new car and to be involved in the development of it. Seeing it finally finished after noting all the projects on paper is really great. I am very happy to be in Barcelona, and I hope these three days can be as long as possible, because we are having a really good experience ”.
