According to the “Marine Traffic” website, which monitors the movements of ships, the 140-meter-long Zebek Zuli ship, which is flying the Russian flag, docked one kilometer from the port of Karasu on the Turkish coast east of Istanbul.
“Zybek Zuli, who came from occupied Berdyansk, entered the port of Karasu. At the request of the Ukrainian Prosecutor General, we asked the Turkish side to take the necessary measures,” Ukrainian Ambassador Vasyl Bodnar said in a tweet.
According to Marine Traffic, the ship turned off its transponder 12 hours before it approached Turkey.
The obligatory transceiver during navigation transmits a satellite signal that allows the ship to be located permanently.
The Ukrainian diplomat praised “good communication and intensive cooperation with the Turkish authorities.”
Bodnar had accused Russia in early June of stealing grain and exporting it to Turkey, and said at the time, “Russia unabashedly steals grain from Ukraine and exports it from Crimea abroad, especially to Turkey.”
“We asked for Turkey’s help to solve the problem,” he added, according to Agence France-Presse.
For his part, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu confirmed last week that his country was investigating these accusations.
The war impedes the export of Ukraine’s grain due to the blockade imposed by the Russian Navy on its ports and the mines planted in the Black Sea, which has caused prices to rise in agricultural markets and threatens to cause famine in countries that depend on it, especially in Africa and the Middle East.
Ankara has offered its assistance at the request of the United Nations to secure sea lanes allowing the export of Ukrainian grain stuck in the ports.
