A Ukrainian general said on Thursday that his country’s armed forces had advanced about 55 km in the past two weeks in a counter-attack in the northeastern region of Kharkiv.
General Oleksiy Gromov added, in a press briefing, that Ukraine has recovered 93 residential communities and more than 2,400 square kilometers in the area since September 21.
Ukrainian forces are advancing in the east and south as part of a counterattack that President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday had made significant and rapid progress.
Gromov said Russian forces were fighting to slow the Ukrainian advance out of Kobyansk, a town recently retaken by Ukraine and considered a railway hub. He explained that the loss of that town greatly complicated the logistical procedures for the Russian forces in the area.
