Ukraine’s government announced on Friday the exchange of 86 prisoners of war soldiers with Russia, the second such exchange since the beginning of the war on February 24. The measure was the result of an agreement between the negotiating delegations from Kiev and Moscow.

“Good news from Zaporizhzhya,” he announced, referring to the Ukrainian region where the soldiers were released, adding that “86 members of the Ukrainian army, including 15 women, are now safe.” Tymoshenko did not highlight how many Russian soldiers were released as part of the deal.

The first prisoner exchange took place on March 24, in which ten Ukrainian soldiers were exchanged for ten Russians. In addition, 11 Russian sailors rescued from a shipwreck near Odessa in the south were exchanged for 19 Ukrainian sailors from a rescue ship intercepted by Russian forces.
