The Joint Operational Forces of Ukraine denounced that Russian troops prevented the evacuation of the civilian population from the port city of Mariupol, in the southeast of the country, on Tuesday, where several buses and trucks were traveling with humanitarian aid.

“The invaders did not let children, women and the elderly leave the city,” reads the statement published on Facebook. Also according to the Ukrainian Joint Operational Forces, the Russians launched the attack “exactly in the direction of the humanitarian corridor”. anything but the genocide of the people of Ukraine,” the publication states.

Shortly before, the municipality of Mariupol announced, through Telegram, that humanitarian aid was coming from Zaporizhzhia to the city. The message was accompanied by a video showing yellow buses and a photo of a transport truck.

The city has been completely blockaded by Russian forces for over a week. The mayor, Vadim Boychenko, stated on several occasions that Mariupol was on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe, without light and heating, due to the constant bombings by the Russian army.
