Russia’s intentions to deploy nuclear weapons on the Crimean Peninsula will lead to an environmental disaster in the region. Such accusations were made by the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Brigadier General Kirill Budanov, he was quoted by the press service of the department in Facebook…
The military pointed out that Russia’s use of uranium enrichment facilities on the island, the production of dual-use materials and the use of other technologies related to nuclear weapons will turn Crimea into a nuclear settler. He stressed that the constant threats to use such weapons for conventional purposes give rise to “nuclear psychosis” both in Russia itself and in its neighbors.
“In the best traditions of the Cold War, the regime [президента России Владимира] Putin achieves the psychological effect of the so-called balancing of a number of countries “on the brink of war,” Budanov said.
The general added that Russia’s nuclear maneuvers in the Arctic speaks to the seriousness of the Kremlin’s intentions. In this regard, he called on the countries of the Black Sea region and Eastern Europe to consolidate their efforts in order to prevent the environmental threat hanging over the Crimea and the whole region.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of the Republic Aleksey Reznikov said that Ukraine should strengthen the defense capability of the country’s armed forces because of Russia’s plans to deploy nuclear weapons in Crimea. According to him, air defense forces, including American units, should be involved in protecting the country.
