It has made the decision based on a “wide range of intelligence and information”
The British Government announced on Friday its intention to ban the Palestinian organization Hamas based on a “wide range of intelligence and information”, in addition to its “ties to terrorism.” Interior Minister Priti Patel, who is on an official visit to the United States, announced the decision in a message posted on her Twitter account.
“I have acted today to outlaw Hamas in its entirety. This government is committed to fighting extremism and terrorism wherever it occurs, ”he tweeted.
The military branch of the Islamist group, the Izz al-Din al-Qasse Brigades, has been banned in the United Kingdom since 2001. The declaration of a terrorist organization will now cover the “entirety of Hamas,” according to the minister.
“Hamas has substantial terrorist capacity, including extensive access to sophisticated weapons and terrorist training facilities,” the Interior Ministry note said.
The organization responded, in turn, that Israeli “resistance to occupation” is a “right guaranteed by international law.”
