The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has sued at a restaurant in Germany for selling a pizza they named ‘champignons league’, a term very similar to that of the European football competition, the Champions League.
Pizza Wolke, the defendant restaurant, is located in Giessen, a German city, and released the news through its social networks: UEFA sent them a letter notifying them of the legal action they will take for the name of the pizza .
As they indicate, the main ingredient of their piece is mushrooms, in German ‘champignon’, so the play on words gave them the opportunity to name it that way.
Apparently, the restaurant would be violating license fees of UEFA, which has protected the term ‘Champions League’ for the main competition of European club football, according to the German newspaper ‘Stuttgarter Nachrichten’.
For its part, the restaurant seems to be enjoying the ‘minutes of fame’ that the lawsuit has given it.

In addition, they said that they are waiting to what extent UEFA goes with its legal actions.
“Pizza Wolke against UEFA. Long live the Pizza League of Champi(g)nones! I feel honored. Like a soccer kid! An ad from UEFA? Really? For my team and myself, this shows that we are on the right track. We have started a path and we will not stop until we are in all the ovens! One man! A pizza! Let’s see how far UEFA goes”, they wrote in one of their posts on their Instagram account.

Pizza Wolke opened its doors in 2016 as a common pizzeria, but in 2020 they reinvented themselves in the context of the pandemic and brought their customers the ingredients so that they could make the pizzas themselves.
Now, they sell frozen pizza, ready to eat, according to ‘La Razón’ about the establishment.
