The Union of Worker Cooperatives of the Region of Murcia, Ucomur, will hold its XXXIII Ordinary General Assembly tomorrow, June 30. The event, which will take place in the halls of the Portón de la Condesa, in Molina de Segura, plans to bring together more than 400 cooperative members and close to a hundred institutional representatives and representatives of the economic and social fabric of the Region of Murcia, including the president of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, and the Minister of Business, Employment, Universities and Spokesperson, Valle Miguélez; who will intervene in the closing and opening of the Assembly, respectively.

Re-election of the president and election of the Governing Council
During the XXXIII Ordinary General Assembly, in addition to taking stock of 2021 and what has been achieved by the organization, the vote will also take place for the re-election of Juan Antonio Pedreño as president of Ucomur for the next four years, as he is the only candidate for the position. .
Similarly, it is expected that the Confederation of Housing Cooperatives of Spain, Concovi, the Pharmaceutical Brotherhood of the Mediterranean, Hefame; and the national distribution cooperative, Consum, new partners of Ucomur, become part of the organization’s Governing Council, which will also be put to the vote for the 2022-2026 period.
The strength of cooperativism in 2021
In 2021, the strength of cooperatives and their essential work on the road to the economic and social reconstruction of our region has once again become clear. In the last year, Ucomur was part of crucial policies and actions for the growth of the productive fabric, creating employment and being a fundamental driver of the regional economy. Not surprisingly, the Region of Murcia is at the head of the national group in number of cooperatives per 100,000 inhabitants, with 1,575 companies and more than 21,000 jobs today.

In 2021, 125 new cooperatives were created, which translated into 315 new jobs. Added to these data is the achievement by the organization of seven million euros for its cooperatives and the 45% increase in Ucomur affiliation in the last two years.
Throughout 2021, the Union of Cooperatives has participated in more than 100 strategic meetings and institutional events, with the aim of putting proposals on the table to promote the cooperative model and influencing public policies to ensure that cooperativism does not is excluded from legislative activity or social dialogue. In this sense, the signing of the V Pact for the Social Economy of the Region of Murcia stands out, in whose elaboration, Ucomur played an essential role.
Among the initiatives to be highlighted and in order to ensure that worker cooperatives in the Region of Murcia are beneficiaries of European funds, Ucomur collaborated with Cepes in the creation of the Next Generation Technical Office, from which each week it sends its partners all the information regarding calls and deadlines through a detailed information bulletin. This initiative also makes it possible to make available to 1,600 cooperatives in the Region the necessary advice and support so that their projects can qualify for these European aid.
Significant was also the launch of the cooperative of entrepreneurs Testéalo, together with the University of Murcia and the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, an initiative for training and mentoring entrepreneurial projects that has already begun to bear fruit with the creation of a cooperative and recognition in Spain and Europe.
