NFTs remain a controversial topic in the industry. Although the players reject this trend, the companies keep getting deeper and deeper into this market. One of the companies that has found itself in the eye of the hurricane is Ubisoft, who has had a difficult start with his Quartz initiative. However, company executives have made it clear that this is not because users do not want this type of content, but because consumers simply do not understand the “benefits” that NFTs offer.
In a recent interview with Finder, Nicolas Pouard, Vice President of the Strategic Innovations Lab at Ubisoft, and Didier Genevois, Technical Director of Blockchain at Ubisoft, talked about how cool NFTs really are, trying to convince the public that they simply do not understand the benefits that this technology will offer in the future. This was what Pouard commented on the matter:
“I think gamers don’t understand what a digital aftermarket can bring them. For now, due to the current situation and context of NFTs, players really believe that firstly it is destroying the planet and secondly it is just a tool for speculation. But what we [en Ubisoft] we’re seeing first is the endgame. The endgame is all about giving players the chance to resell their items once they’re done with them or done playing the game itself.
So, it’s really for them. It is really beneficial. But they don’t get it for now.
Also, this is part of a paradigm shift in gaming. Going from one economic system to another is not easy to manage. There are many habits that you must go against and much of your ingrained mindset that you must change. It takes time. We know”.
Along with this, it has been mentioned that Ubisoft was already expecting a negative response from the community. However, the company remains firm in its decision to fully enter the NFT market, this regardless of how many people show disinterest or hatred for this trend.
In related topics, Ubisoft will close the servers of Hyperscape, his battle royale, in a couple of months. Similarly, sales of NFTs at Ubisoft are a disaster.
Editor’s note:
In what seems to be a joke of the simpsons, Ubisoft has pointed out that youth do not understand this business, when in fact they do, and for that reason many hate NFTs. However, if Konami’s auction showed anything, it is that there is a market, which Ubisoft wants to please.
