A few months ago, the existence of Ubisoft Quartz, a platform dedicated to the distribution of NFTs on some of the company’s most popular games. This initiative started with Ghost Recon: BreakpointAnd it was a resounding failure. Despite this, Ubisoft insist on going ahead with NFTs, and even said that “the public just didn’t understand them”. Well, now your own employees have protested against this.
According to a new report from Bloomberg, Ubisoft communicated with its employees to detail its plans related to the blockchain and NFTs. The response the company got was mostly negative, with hundreds of workers saying they didn’t agree with it. Jason Schrier, reporter of Bloombergquoted some of the messages shared internally:
“Are we competing with EA for the title of most hated studio by the public? Because that’s how it’s done.”
“You know what else also makes a lot of money? Make funny, spectacular and innovative blockbusters. Why don’t we focus on that instead?”
Ubisoft It has not yet ruled on the matter, but it goes without saying that things are not going as they anticipated. We’ll see if in the future they rethink the idea of going ahead with NFTs, or if indeed, they will become one of the most hated video game developers in the industry,
Publisher’s note: If I had to bet, I’d say it’s only a matter of time before Ubisoft reconsiders. Not even EA is currently interested in getting into the NFT market, and generally speaking, the community doesn’t agree with NFTs coming to gaming.
