Companies that personalize prices automatically, such as those for transport vehicles with drivers (VTC) or those that rent homes that are contracted online – such as tourist apartments – will not be able to raise prices in situations similar to DANA.
This Thursday, the Government approved a royal decree that prohibits abusive price increases in disaster situations. Specifically, companies that personalize prices automatically will not be able to increase rates in situations that can be classified as an emergency due to civil protection.
The measure involves modifying the General Law for the Defense of Consumers and Users and has been proposed by the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030, together with the Ministry of Economy, Commerce and Business.
These companies that do not have fixed prices, but rather depend, for example, on demand at a given time, will not be able to raise their rates in “contexts of urgency, risk or need of the consumer,” according to the Ministry headed by Pablo. Bustinduy, in any situation that can be classified as an emergency according to the Law that regulates the National Civil Protection System.
Measures for dealers
In addition, the royal decree limits the sale price of motor vehicles, within the Restart Auto+ Plan, to provide financial aid to those who need to acquire one because they lost it during DANA. In this way, points of sale, such as dealerships, that adhere to this program will not be able to market cars to affected people at prices that are higher than those on October 28.
These points of sale must sign a responsible declaration stating that they do not increase their rates with respect to that date and complete a form available on the electronic headquarters of the Ministry of Industry and Tourism.
In this way, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs details, the aid of 10,000 euros for the acquisition of new vehicles is linked to the limitation of sales prices that were set before the DANA occurred.
