The United Arab Emirates affirmed that the war in Gaza and Lebanon highlights the necessity of strengthening the national state and its comprehensive sovereignty in the Arab world, noting that these events represent important and inspiring lessons for overcoming the difficult years that the region has gone through. In a related context, yesterday, Jordan and Egypt affirmed their firm position on the need to intensify serious international efforts to reach an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon.
This came during a meeting between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi, in the presence of Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Ati and Jordanian Ambassador to Cairo Amjad Al-Adaileh.
The official spokesman for the Egyptian presidency, Counselor Ahmed Fahmy, stated that the meeting witnessed a discussion of the latest developments in the Egyptian and Jordanian efforts aimed at calming the situation in the region.
He explained that it was stressed that the independent Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967 is the primary guarantor of achieving sustainable peace and stability in the region, while emphasizing the danger of the path of military escalation that increases the complexity of the situation and pushes towards possibilities that seriously threaten regional security and the capabilities of the peoples in the region.
Internationally, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy warned yesterday of the seriousness of the situation in the Middle East region, calling for strengthening efforts to reduce the escalation.
Lamy said in a statement: “The situation is currently extremely dangerous, and any escalation or miscalculation is not in anyone’s interest,” stressing the importance of reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon. In order to provide assistance to afflicted civilians and secure the release of hostages.
He added, “The United Kingdom shares with Bahrain and Jordan deep-rooted partnerships in the areas of defence, trade and security, which I look forward to building on.”
In addition, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez yesterday described the Israeli attack on Lebanon as an “invasion,” saying that “the international community cannot remain indifferent to this situation,” and expressed his regret at the lack of consensus on the issue within the European Union.
The Spanish Prime Minister said during a debate in Parliament, “It is clear that there has been an invasion of a sovereign state like Lebanon by another country, and therefore the international community cannot remain indifferent.”
