She explained at the Security Council meeting on the political situation in Syria that Resolution No. 2254 specified that the constitutional process is one of the main pillars to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis, stressing that “the talks on the constitutional committee are the only platform for conducting a constructive national dialogue between Syrians under the leadership and ownership of Syria.” .
In the statement delivered by Ambassador Mohammed Abu Shehab, Deputy Permanent Representative of the State to the United Nations, the UAE explained that the constitution basically defines the relationship between the state and the people, and is considered the main reference for laws and legislation, as it maintains the cohesion of the state and guarantees the rights of its citizens, and consolidates their language, culture and aspirations .
She added that in the context of Syria, Resolution 22754 specified that the constitutional process is one of the main pillars for reaching a political solution to the crisis, and thus, the talks on the Constitutional Committee are the only platform for conducting a constructive national dialogue between Syrians under Syrian leadership and ownership to advance the political process, without interference or dictations. external.
In the statement, Ambassador Muhammad Abu Shehab said, “Commenting on the course of the eighth session of the constitutional track meetings, and despite there being significant differences over some texts, it also witnessed some positive signs regarding finding common ground on some other texts.”
Accordingly, the UAE stressed the importance of focusing on points that enjoy general consensus to build confidence between all parties and thus overcome points of disagreement. “The UAE welcomes the agreement to hold the ninth session on the 25th of next July,” Abu Shehab said.
As part of efforts to build confidence between the parties, the UAE welcomed the Syrian President’s recent issuance of a general amnesty for terrorist crimes that did not lead to deaths, according to which hundreds of detainees were released, and in this regard encouraged all parties to continue to take such steps during the coming period. .
“We agree with the UN envoy’s assessment of the possibility that this general amnesty constitutes a positive gesture, which we believe is necessary and can be built upon to support a sustainable peace and a radical solution to the Syrian crisis,” she said in the statement.
In the context of a marked escalation of hostilities in northern Syria, especially in the areas of Tal Rifaat, Manbij, Ain Issa and Tal Tamr, the UAE, according to Abu Shehab, renewed its position rejecting any foreign interventions in order to preserve Syria’s unity, independence and territorial integrity, including conducting any hostile acts in northern Syria. .
The UAE also expressed its total rejection of any demographic change on Syrian territory, warning that this would threaten security and stability in Syria, and the region as a whole, and its consequences would extend to the political process in the future.
She added: “In preparation for a comprehensive political solution, all security obstacles must be removed, the most important of which is addressing the causes of insecurity, as the terrorist organization ISIS continues to launch its attacks on Deir Ezzor, Hasaka, Eastern Homs and Hama, including its recent attacks in Raqqa, which resulted in There are many casualties.”
