She pointed out that Her Excellency Ohood bint Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Government Development and the Future, will head the country’s delegation to the Future Summit.
Yesterday evening, the member states of the United Nations adopted the “Charter for the Future,” which aims to chart a better future for humanity.
The Charter for the Future, adopted by the votes of 143 countries, aims to bring together the interests and desires of the UN member states.
The Charter for the Future stipulates that member states pledge to take 56 actions in the areas of sustainable development and financing for development, international peace and security, science, technology, innovation and digital cooperation, youth and future generations, and transforming global governance.
In a speech at the opening of the summit, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said, “The world is facing difficult and turbulent times.”
“We cannot wait for ideal conditions,” he added. “We must take the first decisive steps to modernize and reform international cooperation to make it more interconnected, just and inclusive.”
In his speech after the adoption of the Charter, UN General Assembly President Philomon Yang stressed that the “Summit of the Future” provided a path forward “not only to address immediate crises, but also to lay the foundations for a sustainable, just and peaceful world order for all peoples and nations.”
“The Future Summit is a call to action,” Yang said, stressing that “we must shape our future to protect ourselves and the planet.”
“The path we choose must lead to a future in which human dignity is respected and human rights are promoted,” he added.
The President of the General Assembly warned that “our future is in our hands and we have the power to make important choices for the future,” noting that “we stand at a crossroads of global transformation and face unprecedented challenges that require urgent collective action, including climate change and the digital divide.”
