The US authorities have charged two citizens of the country with a cyber attack allegedly committed in collusion with Russian hackers. About it December 20 reported US Department of Justice.
According to the agency, New Yorkers Daniel Abaev and Peter Layman were charged with colluding with Russian hackers and cyberattacking the control system at John F. Kennedy Airport.
“For years, hacks by the defendants prevented honest taxi drivers from paying their fares at New York Airport in the order in which they arrived. Now, thanks to the joint work of the Ministry of Justice and the airport administration, they face serious charges of alleged cybercrimes, ”the report says.
According to prosecutors, the dispatching system was hacked at different times from November 2019 to November 2020. It is noted that Abaev and Leiman charged taxi drivers $10 each for moving to the front of the queue.
The charges reportedly carry a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
Earlier, on December 15, Russian Killnet hackers intercepted the traffic of more than 10 thousand employees of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). They gained access to employees’ social media accounts and adult websites. According to the hackers, the passwords fit the Pentagon’s network infrastructure.
