The first export flight from South Africa with Russian tourists took place on Friday, December 3. The ministry added that all passengers on today’s flight will be isolated for 14 days.
It is known that the mass departure of tourists from South Africa began on November 25, when information appeared about the appearance of an omicron strain of coronavirus in this African state.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to develop a plan to combat a new strain of coronavirus. The deadline for the execution of instructions is December 7th. Chairman of the government Mikhail Mishustin was appointed responsible.
The strain code B.1.1.529, which was named omicron, was identified in South Africa on November 11. The country’s health minister said that it is easily tolerated by vaccinated patients, however, according to available data, it can bypass the immunity of those who have recovered from other variants of the virus.
At the moment, the omicron strain has appeared in more than 20 countries around the world. On December 3, it became known about the infection of a resident of Australia, who was fully vaccinated and did not travel outside the country.
