The detainees are in Granada but it is expected that they may be transferred to Girona during the day. The events took place at around 10:30 p.m. on the night of June 23 on Acàcia Street in the Font de la Pólvora neighborhood of Girona. Although there have been various versions of the motive that triggered the shooting, the majority of witnesses maintain that the alleged murderer’s wife, Estefanía, originally from Figueres and settled in the Vila-Roja neighborhood with her husband since he was banished from the capital of Alt Empordà in 2022, went to look for another neighbor in the neighborhood. Porros clan from Figueres who had also been banished and had recently been living in Font de la Pólvora because she was related to the Tomato Clan. The two women argued frequently, and that night, after coming to blows, Estefanía began to shout: “I’m going to call my husband and he’s going to kill you all.”
And so it was. Guillermo arrived armed with a Kalashnikov, and despite the fact that the family with whom his wife had fought asked him to leave and let them celebrate the festival, Estefanía snapped at him: “You’re always with the guns, let’s see if you shoot now.” Guillermo then let loose a burst of at least 30 shots, which were the shells that the investigators collected from the AK47, plus some other pistol shells. The result was that Yolanda Heredia, 43 years old, and her brother-in-law, Juan Serafín Amador, 47 –head of the Tomato Clan– were killed and two of his children, Jenifer and Antonio, aged 27 and 15, were seriously injured and were taken by their relatives and neighbours to the Trueta Hospital in Girona, where they were admitted.
Guillermo, Estefanía, their two brothers and the youngest immediately fled Girona, and a few hours later Guillermo’s mother and the rest of the family did the same for fear of reprisals. These events unleashed a spiral of violence between the families of the victims and the alleged aggressor. Serious incidents occurred both in Font de la Pólvora and in the neighbouring district of Vila Roja, as well as in other parts of the Girona region, with particular incidence in the district of Sant Joan, in Figueres. There were numerous acts of vandalism and the burning of material and real estate property of the alleged shooter, a car, motorcycles and even a boat.
Between July 26 and August 1, the Mossos d’Esquadra de Girona arrested nine men, aged between 34 and 55, as alleged perpetrators of the crimes of damage, violation of premises, injuries and public disorder. All of them were related to the acts of vandalism in the Sant Joan neighbourhood and two, in addition, to the incidents that occurred at the Trueta, when after the double murder a large group of people entered the hospital and slightly injured two officers who were providing security at the premises.
