The alleged criminals have been located in Barcelona and the Caribbean island of Curaçao
The investigations carried out in the Netherlands for the murder almost a year ago of the investigative journalist Peter R. de Vries have led in the last few hours to the practice of two new arrests, one of them carried out by the National Police Corps in Barcelona and another on the Caribbean island of Curaçao, under Dutch sovereignty. According to the Amsterdam Prosecutor’s Office, a 26-year-old Dutch citizen whose identity has not been published was arrested in Barcelona, while a 27-year-old man of the same nationality was arrested in the overseas territory.
Both are considered suspects in the death of De Vries, shot in the center of Amsterdam on July 6 last year when he was leaving a television studio. The reporter died nine days later as a result of the injuries he sustained.
With the latest arrests, there are already five people who are in prison for their alleged connection to the case, including the two alleged perpetrators, who have already been tried. The verdict against these two suspects will be known next week and the defendants face a possible life sentence.
The Netherlands has requested the extradition of a suspected criminal located in Barcelona through a procedure that is expected to last several weeks, added the statement from the Netherlands Prosecutor’s Office.
Earlier, police on Monday arrested a Polish man accused of organizing De Vries’s murder, a crime that sparked a wave of pain and anger across the country. Krystian M., 27, as he was imprisoned for an assassination attempt in October 2021 in the town of Zeewolde, as reported by the Dutch newspaper ‘Het Parool’.
