Tragedy in Viareggio, where yesterday, August 21, a two-month-old baby died. The baby was in his crib in a family home in the city. He had previously tested positive for cocaine: the mother had drug addiction problems. The baby was therefore removed and assigned to the facility, where he could still be visited by his parents. In the meantime, the newborn was being carefully monitored by health workers.
His death was sudden. The staff found him no longer breathing, around 4 am. The alarm was raised immediately, with the 118 emergency workers, the volunteers of the Croce Verde and the Carabinieri who rushed to help the little boy. Unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done. Among the hypotheses of death, as reported by Il Tirreno, there is the Cot Death Syndrome: a sudden death that according to the estimates of the Ministry of Health causes about 250 new cases every year. In any case, it is likely that the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Lucca will order an autopsy to try to reveal the causes.
“This birth had truly been a hope for them. A hope that was tragically shattered today. Now we will move in concert with the Lucca Prosecutor’s Office: we want to see more clearly, to understand if there are responsibilities that it will be up to the Prosecutor’s Office to ascertain”, said the parents’ lawyer.
