Maritime Rescue has rescued a second canoe today, Saturday, with 216 people on board, including several pregnant women and 21 minors. The boat was adrift about 20 miles south of El Hierro.
In detail, 145 men, 50 women, 10 girls and 11 boysof various nationalities including Senegal, Gambia, and the Ivory Coast, among others.
The sighting notice came from the ship Tony Smith, which gave the location to which the Adhara rescuer left, which had to request reinforcement to the Acrux sea saver due to the large number of people on board.
It has been a day of rescues on the island, since Maritime Rescue has located this Saturday morning a canoe with 57 people aboard, 2 minors, when they were sailing about ten miles south of La Restinga, in the waters of El Hierro.
At around 9:30 a.m., 112 Canarias reported a call from a boat who had entered El Hierro through a repeater, although without a specific position. The warning was confirmed around 10 a.m. with the sighting of the canoe, to which the Acrux sea rescue has been mobilized.
Vessels in the area were alerted to extreme surveillance in order to report their sighting, which was finally confirmed by the Civil Guard after receiving an echo on the radar.
The boat has already been found and is being navigated to its position to escort it to port, where the official count of the number of migrants will take place.
