An aircraft from the airline Gol collided with an Azul plane while trying to make a maneuver at Jorge Amado Airport, located in the south of Bahia, in Ilhéus. The accident occurred on the afternoon of Friday, 6. There were no injuries reported, authorities said.
Around 12:00, the left winglet (located at the end of the wing) of the Gol aircraft touched the horizontal stabilizer (small wing on the tail of the plane) of Azul, which was stationary, both on the ground.
The episode took place during the journey of the Gol plane to the runway where it would be positioned for takeoff. According to a note sent by Gol, the towing procedure, by means of a car, to direct the aircraft in the airport apron is standard.
Even though it was not serious, the accident is not common in aviation. Flight number G3 1513 was destined for Guarulhos. Passengers were relocated, the aircraft sent to the technical team and the causes are yet to be investigated, according to an aviation statement.
Images posted on social networks show part of the left wing of the Gol aircraft damaged. Azul’s flight, nº AD4609, departed from Ilhéus for Belo Horizonte. In a statement, the company said that the accident caused damage to the aircraft’s fuselage, a metal external part that covers the other structures. He also informed that the flight had to be canceled and the plane was handed over to maintenance.
According to Azul, disembarkation occurred normally and passengers were re-accommodated in other operations of the company itself. The number of passengers and crew that were on board in each aircraft was not informed.
