Twitch has announced the price increase for Tier 1 subscriptions globally, including Italy. The move is aimed at “fostering the creation and growth of communities around the world.” The major drain was defined as an adjustment “in line with the localization of the cost of season tickets.” Gift prices also increased. In short, supporting content creators now costs more.
For a dollar more
Twitch also confirmed that streamers will continue to receive the agreed percentage of subscriptions, which varies from 50 to 70% based on their Plus Program level. It will naturally be calculated on the new price. The platform highlighted how streamers will make more money thanks to the increase, which we don’t doubt.
Naturally, those who have to pay, i.e. the average user of the platform, didn’t like it the increase of 1 dollar (1€ in Italy), given that it involves a significant increase in costs if multiple subscriptions are purchased. With us now the price to pay is €4.99 per level 1 subscription. Imagine that you have signed up for ten subscriptions. It’s easy to do the math, we’re talking about €10 more per month.
The reality is that Twitch has always been forced to struggle with its low profitability: despite the large influx of users, the service has never generated revenue. A price increase was therefore in the air, also considering the onslaught of competition, in particular that of Kick, where many top streamers have moved. Someone also tried to ask Twitch if the higher price will give some more advantages to paying people, but it seems that everything will remain the same in terms of offer.
