Turku | Terveystalo did not borrow a heartbeat – Police: No crime took place

Turku In the so-called heart attack incident in May, no crime was committed, informs the police of Southwest Finland.

That was it about the situationwhere Terveystalo did not lend a defibrillator to bystanders who tried to revive an elderly person at the Turku bus station.

At first, negligence was suspected in the situation. The emergency center instructed the person who provided help in the situation to call for a defibrillator. Since there was no device at the bus station, the person who helped went to get a striker from a private medical center across the road.

Turku Sanomat in May the helper interviewed said that the Terveystalo reception told him that the device could not be borrowed. At the time, Terveystalo told Helsingin Sanomat that the operating method was not in line with the company’s policy.

Police explained in his preliminary investigation the reasons why the heartbeat was not handed over. It turned out that a person who had been trained to use the device was in a patient care situation at the time of the incident, which could not be left unfinished.

“Using the defibrillator at the medical station requires training. In addition, the device was packed in a first aid kit with various medicines. In practice, a heart attack in a medical center would have been useless in the hands of a layman,” says the head of the investigation, the crime commissioner Jukka Kyynäräinen in the bulletin.

According to the police, the decision not to hand over the device was justified. Because of this, the police say they will stop investigating the case.

After the emergency call to the emergency center, the ambulance was at the scene to the person who had a seizure in about nine minutes. According to the police, treatment arrived quickly. The police will not comment further on the medical information of the person who had a seizure.
