Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the presidents of Russia and Turkey respectively, will have a meeting this Thursday in Astana. There, the Turkish president will present to Putin his proposals on possible negotiations between Moscow and the West.

“Several initiatives are being discussed, especially in the press. First, the Turks offer their mediation. They probably come from the fact that if there are negotiations or contacts, they will take place on their territory, in Istanbul or Ankara, I think,” he said. this Wednesday Putin’s adviser for International Affairs, Yuri Ushakov.
Likewise, Ismael Emrah Karayel, the president of the Parliamentary Committee between Turkey and the European Union, assured that these negotiations between Russia and the West could take place in Istanbul.
Turkish media also assure that the plan that Turkey seeks to propose already had positive comments from Washington.

Putin’s adviser stressed that the two leaders maintain regular contacts due to the fact that Turkey does not join the illegal sanctions against Russia from the West.

According to the aide to the Russian president, Turkey “quite successfully” plays the role of mediator in issues related to Ukraine, such as the agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain.
Putin will take advantage of the occasion to also meet with the Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas; and the Qatari emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, with whom he will discuss energy cooperation and the situation in Ukraine, according to Ushakov.
He will also hold meetings with the presidents of Kyrgyzstan, Sadir Zhaparov; the president of Tajikistan, Emomalí Rajmón, with whom he will deal with the escalation of border tension; as well as with the Azerbaijani president, Ilham Alíev, to whom he will propose a new trilateral meeting with the Armenian prime minister, Nikol Pashinian.
