According to the channel, which did not mention any sources, Ankara used “armed drones” to target a building “used as a compound for the Kurdistan Workers’ Party” in Sinjar, during an operation jointly carried out by the Turkish army and intelligence.
The channel added that “senior leaders” of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party were in a meeting at the time of the strike, and that “six terrorists” were neutralized, as it put it.
The PKK has been waging an insurgency against the Turkish state since 1984, and is based in remote mountainous regions of Iraq.
In mid-April, Turkey, which has established military bases in northern Iraq for 25 years, announced the implementation of a new operation against Kurdish fighters.
The operation, dubbed “Claw Lock”, comes after the “Tiger’s Claw” and “Eagle’s Claw” operations launched by the Turkish army in northern Iraq in 2020.
