A journalist has been shot dead in Turkey. There are suggestions that his death could be related to a critical article.
Izmit – The editor-in-chief of a local internet newspaper has been shot dead in Turkey. Güngör Arslan was hit by several bullets in front of his editorial building in the western Turkish city of Izmit on Saturday and died of his injuries in hospital, local media reported. The journalist was to be buried on Sunday.
According to official information, a suspect was arrested. The background of the act was initially unclear. The Committee for the Protection of Journalists (CPJ) asked the authorities to clarify whether the attack on Arslan was related to his journalistic work.

Reporters Without Borders also called for comprehensive clarification and referred via Twitter to an article that Arslan had published the day before his death. In it, Arslan raised allegations of corruption against the mayor of the municipality led by the ruling AKP party. The journalist accused the politician of having given construction companies orders.
