Tunisian taekwondo player Mohamed Khalil Jendoubi’s chances of winning a medal at the Paris Olympics have increased, after qualifying for the semi-finals of the -58 kg weight class, and defeating Australian Bailey Lewis 2-0 (7-4 and 6-3) in the quarter-finals, after defeating Serbian Lev Korneev in the round of 16 2-0 (5-3 and 9-3).
Jendoubi (22 years old) won a silver medal in the same weight at the Tokyo Olympics in the summer of 2021, after losing to the Italian Vito Dellaquella in a very close and tactical match. It was the best medal for Tunisia in this sport. The Italian is still continuing in the competition and will later play his match in the quarter-finals.
The first seed will meet in the semi-finals the South Korean Taejun Park (20 years old), the fifth seed.
“Taekwondo saved my life, it taught me a lot, about life, about respect. This sport made me strong and changed my life,” Jendoubi told the official games website.
