As Tunisia prepares to hold presidential elections next fall, the Brotherhood, represented by the Ennahda Movement and its allies, is seeking to question the integrity of the elections, claim that there is no freedom, and work to support an independent candidate, hoping to return to the political scene after… The Tunisian street pronounced it.
For his part, Dr. Khaled Obaid, a researcher in political and strategic affairs in Tunisia, believes that the Brotherhood is unable to spoil the electoral scene, and no longer has the previous popularity, and has proven its failure to rule, and its inability to achieve the hopes of Tunisians.
Obaid said, in a statement to Al-Ittihad, that Ennahda is preparing itself for the next stage, by giving the impression that it is the victim who represents the democratic and pluralistic path and the preservation of freedoms. Therefore, as always, it believes that it must invent a new story so that it can penetrate and return. Once again to rule, as happened in 2011 when it presented itself as a victim of the regime of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.
He added that the movement uses false propaganda and exerts pressure on the level of some Western circles concerned with freedoms and human rights to try to promote that freedoms in the country are threatened by the imprisonment of its leaders, pointing out that the movement is preparing for the stage that follows Kais Saied, believing that it will remain.
Obaid expressed his belief that Ennahda would give instructions to its members not to participate in the vote, in an attempt to show the weak participation rates in the elections and thus the weak popularity of President Kais Saied, stressing that the Tunisian people have ended their affairs with the Brotherhood movement, and have removed it from their calculations and cannot She returns by any means, after her failed experience.
The current presidential term ends in October 2024, and since his victory in the presidential elections, Kais Saied has entered into a decisive battle against the Brotherhood organization after serious facts were revealed by the National Security Council regarding the organization’s involvement in terrorism, assassinations, and financial corruption.
For his part, Tunisian political analyst Munther Thabet explained that the “Brotherhood” will bet on one of the candidates in the upcoming presidential elections, and he will not be a Brotherhood, given that they maintain their position rejecting the measures of July 25, 2021. Thabet said, in statements to “Al-Ittihad,” that the organization The Brotherhood still exists, and the trials and prosecutions have only affected the historical leadership, but the organization and its supporters and cadres are present.
He pointed out that President Qais still has a majority, according to the data of recent opinion polls, and is awaiting the outcome of the revision of electoral laws and the nature of the competitors, even though the names that have announced their candidacy so far are mostly unpopular.
