The current president, Kais Saied, is emerging as the winner of a new mandate in Sunday’s presidential elections, in which only two opposition candidates are running: a former legislator who supported Saied’s seizure of power in 2021 and a businessman recently imprisoned. The Tunisian electoral commission banned 14 candidates from running for office during a campaign marked by the repression of dissent.
