Women who have undergone breast cancer surgery “have found, within this sport, the motivation to express rebirth. It is an act of awareness. In the Federation, there are always women in every event”, the Breast Cancer Paddlers, “because they really give color, give energy and make you think”. They help us “find together a cue to move forward. Staying at home, not being active, does not help us to overcome not only from a psychological point of view, but also from a physical point of view” the disease, “because physical activity is a sort of therapeutic tool, a sort of drug”. This was said by Antonio De Lucia, president of the Italian Dragon Boat Federation (Fidb), inaugurating in Rome, at the Eur lake, the third edition of the CardioBreast Dragon Boat Festival, the friendly competition between female Dragon Boat teams in which women who have undergone breast cancer surgery (Breast Cancer Paddlers) participate, who, at the end of the performance, share their life and sporting experiences.
The event, promoted by the National Institute of Cardiovascular Research (Inrc) with the collaboration of Fidb and the unconditional contribution of Daiichi Sankyo Italia, has seen the growing support of numerous associations of patients with cardiovascular and oncological diseases.
