Also thanks to the puncture of Pierre Gasly, at Silverstone Yuki Tsunoda he returned to the points, bringing a small smile to AlphaTauri, a team otherwise disappointed with the behavior of the car on the English track. In Faenza they expected the AT02 to do even better than fifth place in the constructors’ standings. A position that the AlphaTauri maintains for now, but the advantage over Aston Martin is only one point. The Hungaroring, therefore, needs a return to convincing performances by both Tsunoda and Gasly. These are the words of the Japanese in presentation of the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Gasly, we need to turn the page
“Looking back at Silverstone, I was not happy with my qualifying – having had traffic problems – but overall I can be satisfied, because I managed to score a point on Sunday, even if the new format proved to be quite difficult. I think the team was a little disappointed with the car’s subdued performance compared to expected, but as far as I’m concerned I’m quite happy. Driving a Formula 1 car at Silverstone gave me an incredible feeling of high speed, especially passing by Maggotts and Becketts. When I first drove an F1 car, I was surprised by the amount of downforce and the level of grip. But doing those two curves fully, enjoying all that load, was really a surprise“, The Japanese told the official AlphaTauri channels. “The Hungaroring will be very different. I like this track, even if the last time I raced there in Formula 2 I didn’t get a good result, thanks to a bad qualifying and the breaking of the front wing in the race. However I like it a lot as a track: it is very demanding and requires maximum load on the car. Overall, it’s a fun track. Physically it is a demanding track, due to the heat and the absence of real straights where you can catch your breath, so I think it could be tough. I don’t know how I will manage, but I feel ready“.
