Yuki Tsunoda he has only the AlphaTauri in his head. This is where the Japanese driver would like to race next year, also because he doesn’t have many alternatives, between lack of seats available and belonging to the Red Bull galaxy. His, however, is one of the few contracts still in the balance for next season: the team has for the moment only confirmed Pierre Gasly, while everything is silent for the # 22. However, it remains confident in key-2023. According to him, he too – like his French teammate – deserves to keep his place.
“I hope to be able to extend my contract with AlphaTauri for next year as well. I am really happy with the team here. Both drivers deserve their contracts. For now, I focus only on myself, working with the team and achieving maximum performance in every Grand Prix. Then we will see how the contract issue will go“, These are the words of Tsunoda at Silverstone.
To be sure, AlphaTauri doesn’t have many alternatives to Tsunoda either. After a first year ‘in crescendo’, in 2022 his performances were not excellent: 15th in the championship with 11 points (five less than Gasly) and a blue pencil mistake in Montreal, where he even went to the wall at the exit of the box. In his defense, the AT03 doesn’t seem to have the same speed as last year. To further save his wheel, there is the limited room for maneuver on the youth front by AlphaTauri. Jüri Vips has just been fired from the Red Bull Academy for the discriminatory sentences pronounced in a live broadcast TwitchLiam Lawson and Ayumu Iwasa they’re not stealing your eye in Formula 2, Dennis Hauger he won in Baku but is perhaps still immature, while Jehan Daruvala he has only won three races in F2 in two years and in October he will blow out 25 candles. The only alternative could be a return of Alex Albonconsidering how well the Thai is doing well in Williams.
