“To participate in this race you have to be real crazy, to win it is essential to be idiots for passion like us”. A motto that the guys from the Veneto of Team Car-Ota Gag Garage had clearly printed on the t-shirts with which they raced aboard a giant carrot on the obstacle course built in San Marino for the Red Bull Soapbox Race. They are Davide Delle Mule (the captain), Andrea Tedesco (the pilot) and Stefano and Luca Lando. They are the winners of the San Marino edition of the goliardic event organized by the giant of energy drinks in which machines without engines are launched along a descent between ramps for jumps, chicanes and obstacles of various kinds.

The goal is to cross the finish line before the others (in most cases despite the many pieces lost along the way), but not only. The jury, composed on the occasion by the member of The Jackal Alfredo Felco, by the well-known creator Luis Sal, by Leonardo Fioravanti, Red Bull athlete and first Italian surfer to reach the Olympics, and by the correspondent of the Iene Veronica Ruggeri, also evaluated the creativity, the idea and the choreography that each team put on before leaving. All under the amused eyes of Yuki Tsunoda, the AlphaTauri Formula 1 driver who handed the cup to Team Car-Ota. “This is the fifth time we have participated in this event and the second time that we are on the podium – say the guys from the team who have just come off the podium – we are very fond of this event and we are already making an appointment for the next edition”. In the last one, that of 2018 on the path of Villa Borghese, in Rome, they had finished second. “Frankly – they continue – this year we had no ambitions for victory. We just aimed to be the fastest. In the end, however, the judges also appreciated all our work ”. After Red Bull approved the project, it took them a couple of months to build the carrot car. “Each with their own skills, between an aperitif and another, we dedicated several evenings to building the vehicle. Among us there are bricklayers, window makers, graphic designers, mechanics, all of whom also share a passion for sport and the desire to have fun with great self-irony “.

Self-irony that also led the secretary of state for tourism of San Marino, Federico Pedini Amati, to launch along the descent with the Red Bull can-shaped vehicle made by the company for the occasion. And also some members of the Formula 1 AlphaTauri team, mainly in the communication and marketing area, to test the route with a helmet-shaped vehicle, after a choreography that simulated a pit stop and with Tsunoda, to push the vehicle in the first section of route. On the podium, behind the Car-Ota Gag Garage Team, the “Grease 50” team from Bologna staged a representation of the historic film with John Travolta and the Veronese team “We are out like a balcony”, which presented the choreography in which Juliet looks out from the balcony and then runs away with her Romeo driving the vehicle. The second prize, destined for teams from the university world, was awarded to the boys from Como from “Alpha Shopping” who reused a shopping cart to create a super light and very fast car.
