Decision was taken in representation against 57 profiles that released the audio on social networks
Minister Raul Araújo, from the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), determined this Saturday (27.Aug.2022) that an audio blaming the PT and the former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva because of the rise in fuel prices is deleted by Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Getter. In publications, the audio is falsely attributed to former minister Aldo Rebelo.
The decision was taken in a representation presented by the Brasil da Esperança coalition against 57 profiles that published the audio on social networks. According to the request sent to the TSE, this is untrue information. The TSE minister agreed.
“It can be seen, of course, that the contested publications —although in several — are untrue, as Aldo Rebelo did not record the contested audio, information that was confirmed by him on his Twitter profile, on 5.24.2022, as well as by several verification agencies. It is, therefore, content produced to disseminate disinformation”, stated. Here’s the intact of the decision (45 KB).
The minister also considered that the dissemination of content could influence this year’s dispute, as Lula is running for the Presidency of the Republic.
“Notwithstanding the principle of minimal interference of this Specialized Justice, the protection of the right to the veracity of information and the honor of the actors in the electoral process is a guideline for the Electoral Justice to exercise its role of punctual regulator of the event”continued Araújo.
The Brasil da Esperança coalition, responsible for representation in the TSE, is formed by PT, PV, PC do B, Psol, Rede, PSB, Solidariedade, Avante and Agir.
