Decision belongs to Minister Maria Claudia Bucchianeri; publication suggests that PDT candidate would be against the Catholic faith
Minister Maria Claudia Bucchianeri, from the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), condemned the federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) this Friday (30.Sep.2022) to pay a fine of BRL 5,000 for making negative propaganda against the presidential candidate Ciro Gomes (PDT).
the president’s son Jair Bolsonaro (PL) released a video insinuating that Ciro would be against the Catholic faith. For the TSE minister, the candidate’s speeches were taken out of context. Here’s the intact of the decision (55 KB).
The images were taken from a lecture given by Ciro in 2017 at the Brazil Forum UK, in Oxford, England.
“I don’t want any nationalization, I want social control and the end of the Catholic moralist illusion and the end of the Catholic moralist illusion”, says Ciro in an excerpt of the video. Then a priest says that it is necessary to unite Catholics and Evangelicals to “the good” from the country.
According to Bucchianeri, there was the disclosure of an untrue fact to Ciro’s disfavor, which constitutes negative electoral propaganda.
“The context of the questioned post reveals a very clear intention to dissuade voters from opting for a particular candidacy in the future, through the propagation of clearly negative and typically electoral content”he said.
