Former US President Donald Trump (2017-2021) returned to the New York State Supreme Court this Thursday (2) for another day of his criminal trial over the alleged fraud in his business records to make a payment in money to former porn actress Stormy Daniels, in exchange for her silence about an alleged relationship between the two in 2006.
This Thursday, Trump’s defense questioned Keith Davidson, Stormy Daniels’ former lawyer, who was completing his testimony about the case that began this week.
According to information from NBC Newsduring questioning, the former president’s defense tried to question Davidson’s character, suggesting that he could have instructed Daniels to invent the story about the alleged relationship with Trump.
At another point, during his testimony this Thursday, Davidson admitted to having told Michael Cohen (Trump’s former lawyer who allegedly made the cash payment to Daniels) that, if the former president lost the 2016 election contest, Daniels would lose its “influence” over him.
Douglas Daus, a data specialist who works for the New York prosecutor’s office responsible for the prosecution, also testified before the court on Thursday. He talked about the number of contacts and other discoveries made on Michael Cohen’s phones.
Upon leaving court this Thursday, Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with the gag order imposed by the judge in the case, Juan Merchan, against him. The former American president and eventual representative of the Republican Party in November’s presidential elections called Merchan’s order “unconstitutional” and announced that his defense team will appeal against it.
“I am not allowed, as a presidential candidate — the main candidate, the nominee of the Republican Party, and the one in front of [Joe] Biden by a lot — I’m not allowed to talk,” Trump told reporters waiting for him outside the courtroom.
He added that “there has never been abuse like this before” and that the judge “should step aside from the case.” Trump also said the New York trial was “rigged.”
In this trial, Trump faces 34 counts of falsifying business records related to the alleged payment of money to silence Daniels. He has already pleaded not guilty and denied having had a relationship with the former porn actress.
The trial will return this Friday (3), with the continuation of Douglas Daus’ testimony. Trump’s defense is expected to question him.
