Former US President Donald Trump is owed about a million dollars in taxes on a skyscraper in Chicago. As became known Chicago Sun-Times, part of the 2011 payments should be returned to him.
It turned out that local authorities overestimated the cost of hotel rooms and premises in the building, so that Trump had to pay more than expected.
However, if the former American leader is ordered to return the money, it will be taken from property taxes owed by the city of Chicago, and to a greater extent this may affect public schools: they account for about 540 thousand dollars.
The Trump International Hotel and Tower is located on the banks of the Chicago River, where it flows into Lake Michigan. The building has a hotel, retail space and a spa. Trump initially said that most of the stores in the skyscraper are empty because there are no tenants, so the premises are not of great value. The Chicago authorities, in turn, argued that empty spaces all early “add value to the entire building.”
Earlier it became known that real estate under the Trump brand in Manhattan (New York) has fallen in price – skyscrapers have fallen in price by 17 percent since 2016, when the politician won the election.
