Trump threatens more cuts to 60 universities for “anti -Semitic harassment”

The Persecution campaign against the right of protest and the Protal Movement continues in the United States. Donald Trump’s government sent a letter to 60 universities, public and private on Monday night, threatening them to cut federal funds if they do not take measures to protect Jewish students. They are accused of having allowed an alleged “anti -Semitic harassment and discrimination” against Jewish students in the proper manifestations of last year.

The threat comes after the Administration has taken exemplary measures against Columbia University for the proportions of 2024: it canceled 400 million dollars in subsidies and has arrested the Palestinian student Mahmoud Khalil for his role in those mobilizations. Despite legally residing in the country, Khalil was arrested by immigration agents and runs the risk of being deported.

The document has been issued by the Office of Civil Rights of the Department of Education and, according to the agency, has been sent to all those centers that are being investigated for possible violations of Title VI of the Civil Rights Law, which prohibits discrimination for reasons of race, color and national origin in programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance.

The department, now led by Linda McMahon, warns of “potential coercive actions” against higher educational institutions if they do not guarantee the safety of Jewish students, which includes guaranteeing “uninterrupted access to the facilities of the campus and educational opportunities.”

In the statement of the civil rights office, McMahon also expresses its concern about an alleged hostile atmosphere around Jewish students. “The department is deeply disappointed because Jewish students studying at the US elite universities continue to fearing for their safety in the face of the constant anti -Semitic eruptions that have seriously interrupted university life for more than a year. University leaders should do things better, ”says McMahon. A Columbia teacher explained to Eldiario.es that the unprecedented arrest of Khalil has sown fear in other international students involved in the proportions and that this is affecting the normal functioning of classes. Telematics lessons have already begun to be offered to protect them from possible arrests to the university.

Even so, the Trump administration continues to insist on creating a story regarding an alleged fear students against Jewish students for the protests of almost a year ago. The University of Columbia was the heart of the camping that extended throughout the country against the Gaza War. Jewish students also participated in the mobilizations, despite the accusations of anti -Semitism by the Republicans. McMahon considers that not enough to end this supposed harassment is not being done, although Harvard’s rectorship, Pennsylvania and Columbia ended up resigning after being interrogated before the Education Committee led by Republican Virginia Foxx. Foxx has always had elite universities (in English known as the Ivy League), as well as diversity, equity and equality (DEI) policies.

The new administration is leading an harassment campaign that goes beyond the proper movement and also intends to erode the right of protest on campus and the freedom of chair. Last year the Republicans launched a tough campaign against the proper manifestations, calling them “anti -Semitic.” A position to which, with a small mouth, the administration of the then president Joe well, whose popularity was falling due to the mobilizations is also added.

The constant criticisms and accusations achieved that the right to protest, something that had always occurred in the university centers, would once again be a debatible issue. Broken consensus, Republicans have only increased their attacks against all those expressions that do not align with their agenda. At the end of January, Trump also signed an executive order aimed at combating anti -Semitism on university campuses.
