Florida.– Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump on Thursday proposed holding three televised debates in September with his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I hope he accepts,” Trump said during a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago residence in southeastern Florida, after confirming that he had agreed on the dates of the debates with television channels: September 4, 10 and 25.
Trump said he is willing to appear separately on Fox, ABC and NBC, all throughout September.
ABC confirmed that the network would host the two candidates for a debate on September 10.
Trump had previously agreed to a debate against President Joe Biden on ABC in late September, but later reneged on that commitment and asked Harris to join him in a Fox News debate.
The former president also said there would be a “peaceful” transfer of power if the November presidential election is “honest,” at a time when his Democratic rivals are concerned that he will not recognize the election results in the event of a defeat, as in 2020.
“Of course there will be a peaceful handover, like last time (…) I just hope we have honest elections,” said the Republican presidential candidate at a press conference, without mentioning the episode of the assault on the US Congress by his supporters in January 2021.
