One of the leaders of the 2018 truck driver strike, Wallance Landim ‘Chorão’, president of Abrava (Brazilian Association of Motor Vehicle Drivers), says that the category is united by new stoppages from November 1st. The entities that represent the workers are in a state of strike and have given 15 days to negotiate the demands with the government.
“President Bolsonaro and Minister Paulo Guedes have to choose whether they govern for shareholders or for truck drivers and the middle class. As it is, there is no way to survive”, says Landim. “We need something concrete, we are tired of unfulfilled promises, we no longer accept”.

Among the demands, which revolve around the high price of fuels, are the discussion of the change in the ICMS charge, in progress in the Senate, compliance with the minimum road freight, Petrobras’ pricing policy and the special pension, which truck drivers want transporting dangerous or unhealthy loads have been entitled since 1995, but that would not be fulfilled, according to Landim.
“We sought union and we received the deliberation of the category itself. Since 2018 it is the first stoppage that Abrava will participate. We already showed in 2018 what happened”, said ‘Chorao’.
He still criticizes the variation in fuel prices, but says that the proposal to change the ICMS charge is ineffective. On the other hand, it defends a proposal by federal deputy Fausto Pinato (PP-SP), Bill 3491/2021, which institutes the Fuel and Cooking Gas Price Stabilization Fund – FEPCGC.
The state of strike was approved at a national meeting held in Rio de Janeiro on the last 16th. The CNTTL (National Confederation of Transport and Logistics Workers) confirmed that it joined the movement, as did the CNTRC (National Council for Road Cargo Transport) .
“The Bolsonaro government had three years to improve the life of the autonomous transporter and nothing was accomplished. We will give another 15 days so that our agenda, which is known to minister Tarcisio and the Bolsonaro government, is actually applied to truck drivers,” says CNTTL director, Carlos Alberto Litti Dahmer, in a statement. “Our call for stoppage has the support of 1 million truck drivers”, he reinforces.
The CNTTL is still asking for approval of the new Regulatory Framework for Road Cargo Transport (PLC 75/2018), improvement and creation of stopping and rest points and “improvements in the proposal for the vote in transit in the Senate”.
The three entities – CNTTL, Abrava and CNTRC – continue to mobilize the category at the 3rd National Meeting, to be held this Wednesday (20th), in Porto Alegre.
