The US population is growing fast with both immigrants and births increasing as a result of the pandemic. As a result, inflation has skyrocketed with the demand for housing far outweighing supply during this period of record high prices.
With the increase in the price of once-accessible areas, a significant number of Americans are moving to places where they will improve their lifestyle. People are giving preference to other aspects besides price, for example, owning a home of some other kind or living among the huge open territories.
One burning question as Americans reevaluate their living situations is: In what ways are people relocating in 2023? To answer this, a survey of 1000 people was performed to shed light on their recent moving stories.
75% of Americans Have Regrets About Their Move
Three out of every four Americans regret moving. This also involves discontent with their new accommodations, (15%) and an urge for a bigger space to live in (20%).
Nevertheless, despite these regrets, Americans usually entered the moving process with positive feelings.
About 65% of people were enthusiastic, optimistic or calm about moving in their lives and 59% had negative emotions such as fear, upset or dread.
Consistent with other positive emotions, excitement was the most commonly reported emotion among Americans – 38% of Americans were highly enthusiastic about relocating.
On the contrary, 33% of them admitted to being stressed out during moving.
Moreover, 44% of Americans cried at least once during the emotional ride.
It is interesting to note that one fifth of the participants (20%) expressed remorse for not having chosen a bigger place, while another 20% admitted longing for their former home.
These results indicate that the relocation stands for more than an ordinary uncomfortable feeling with one’s living conditions. Many Americans face the heartbreaking choice of abandoning a much loved home and moving in search of work and more affordable cities.
28% of Americans Regret Not Hiring Movers
To ensure that there are no regrets later on, and that the move goes quickly and safely, it’s best to entrust the process to experienced professionals. Companies such as Elate Moving will take care of several vital benefits such as:
- Saving time
- Avoiding physical strain
- Experience and professionalism
- Organization of the process
- Minimizing the risks of damage
- Insurance and guarantees
Statistics show that 28% of Americans regret not hiring professional movers or moving companies.
Hiring movers may be expensive, so most people choose to move by themselves to save money. Nevertheless, the economic benefits associated with this way are not always greater than the soreness and stress experienced while moving without assistance.
Most people hire professional movers due to the convenience that comes with it. Statistics show that more than around 43% of Americans believe it is more convenient to prefer the knowledge of movers than doing the job on their own. Additionally, 40% of the respondents mentioned that hiring a moving company helped them save valuable time while 36% believe it was more cost-efficient to work with professionals rather than self-managing.
Aside from transport services, moving companies offer different options based on what the customer wants. The most widely used add-on service among Americans is renting a moving truck 37%. The following most-purchased services are packing supplies (31%), and labor assistance, which features moving of goods from the house to the customer’s preferred transportation method such as a truck or a pod.
Notably, among those Americans who moved without a mate, friends or relatives just 22% relied upon moving companies for labor assistance. The main purpose of why they do so is to save their time (36%). Interestingly, a larger number of respondents, who did not move alone, also marked time-saving as the key reason for employing professional labor help (41%).
Labor help is especially important when families or groups of friends move together because bigger households have more items that must be transported. Secondly, the more people who are moving together, the harder it is to coordinate the move. This is where professional moving companies come in handy.
