The TRE-MG (Regional Electoral Court of Minas Gerais) ordered the seizure of campaign material from the campaign committee of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), candidate for reelection, in the Prado neighborhood, west of Belo Horizonte. In Saturday’s decision, the 22nd, electoral judge Raquel de Paula Rocha Soares points to the occurrence of “irregular electoral propaganda” and the “disclosure of untrue facts” about former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
Parts of the material collected by the TRE in the Bolsonaro committee accuse the PT of involvement in “immoral practices with children and animals”, “support for criminality” and “laundering and theft of public money”.
The material also contains false information, such as that Lula defends the “persecution of churches and Christians”, is “in favor of abortion” and of “gender ideology for children in schools”. “It is appropriate for this specialized justice to intervene to curb the dissemination of false news”, said the judge.
In addition to the seizure of the pieces, the magistrate also ordered the removal of a billboard installed on the facade of the committee, determining a fine in case of non-compliance with the determination.
“The advertising artifacts, posted on the facade of the committee, have the visual impact of a billboard, which is expressly prohibited by the Law of Elections and Regulatory Norm, subjecting the candidate to the payment of a fine in the amount of R$ 5 thousand to R$ 15 thousand” .
The decision also determines that Bolsonaro’s committee, responsible for the dissemination of irregular advertising, adapt advertising on the facade within 48 hours.
The judge’s decision may be appealed to the plenary of the TRE. The report of Estadão did not locate those responsible for the committee to comment on the judge’s order.
