Transport “It took a long time to watch it – The construction of this stretch of street took years and swallowed 20 million euros

The long-awaited street connection finally opened in Kalasatama. The townspeople came to celebrate the new thoroughfare with sparkling wine.

“Take it but away, ”he urges Timo Säynätjoki five to twelve.

Foreman Heikki Pulkkinen and the shovel Naim Rajabi lift the fences in front of the road to the side of the road, and so a new street has opened.

The new fairway opened in Helsinki’s Kalasatama on Friday. The extension of Vilhonvuorenkatu provides access from Sörnäinen’s coastal road to Kalasatama’s Koksikatu and Parrulaituri.

The bike route from Kallio to Mustikkamaa will surely delight many in the summer.

The construction of the street section has taken a year and cost as much as 20 million. The contract was made particularly difficult by the fact that the soil in the area was of rather poor quality and even toxic when inhaled.

The work was done inside a large, “football field-sized” tent, tightly protected. The vacuumed tent was always moved as the construction site progressed.

Now the huge job is finally done.

A few people from the work crew have gathered to watch the road open. Project manager Säynätjoki admits that it is a little sad now. Is the gang perhaps going to celebrate the completion of the work?

“We’ll take a deep sigh and leave for the weekend.”

First the car turns from Sörnäinen’s coastal road to a new road at 11.58.

Five more than a dozen new roads are curved by two parking attendants on electric kickboards. They check to see if the oven-fresh parking signs are in order.

Roosa Mattsson turned his bike on a new road without planning at all. We tell you that the road was opened ten minutes ago.

“I didn’t know at all that this was opening up. But this was so well signposted that this was quite the drift! ” he says.

Mattsson believes that cycling will become much easier with the road.

Roosa Mattsson was delighted by the new bike path she found by chance.

Tuula Hotanen came walking to see the road. He lives right next door and has been watching the completion of a street job from a window.

“We came to see how the new road makes driving easier. We’ve had to drive around to know where. “

Also Matti Nyberg is pleased that the road is finally open.

“I cycle a lot here and I’ve been following the situation. There has been a bit of unnecessary twisting here, and this thing has been a little unnecessarily slow. ”

By road driving new flat asphalt Fugi Vu and Wissam Seid. They stop by the side of the road to talk.

“We read in the newspaper a couple of days ago that the road is opening. We spend a lot of time in the direction of Red and in the Suvilahti skate park, ”says Vu.

Both are delighted with the new walkway.

“This is especially good for cyclists. The new road also highlights the architecture of the area nicely, ”says Seid.

“The road will definitely bring more people to the area, which will benefit the area’s restaurateurs,” Vu says.

However, one thing worries them.

“Can you write in the magazine that we really hope the skate park stays here!”

Half at one time a dozen partygoers suddenly gathered by the side of the road.

The audience cheers and applauds as the party drink is capped.

“For the opening of the street, skål!”

“Our office is on the other side of the Sörnäinen coastal road. We have been looking at the construction site from that height for five years, ”says the building architect Janne Hänninen Architect’s office in Concrete.

The entire office crowd has arrived to rejoice that the construction site has been packaged.

“It was seen for a long time. We are very happy, yes, this may even affect our work. ”

The office even bet on whether the site would be completed on time.

“Today is our office’s summer recreation day. This was planned at the same time as the road was opened. ”

Jaakob Solla (left), Emmi Jusslin, Tapani Eronen, Heidi Sukanen and Aurora Solla celebrated the opening of the street with sparkling wine.

Part of the crew travels to work by bike from Eastern Helsinki, so the new bike path speeds up the commute comfortably. The new bike paths are praised, but the intersection on the Sörnäinen promenade is fun for Janne Hänn.

“That intersection is a classic example of cycling design in Helsinki, there are different ways of organizing cycling in three directions.”

The work team has also followed the completion of the contract with professional interest. The price of the project has been shaken, although there were no alternatives to the procedure due to poor soil conditions.

“An insanely expensive project when divided per million meters. Housing has been planned up to this Kalasatama and Sompasaari, and some of our future destinations are in this area as well. To my horror, I wonder if the process is just as difficult for them. ”

It remains to be seen.

“The quality of the earth will only become clear when we start digging.”
