Helsinki the city asks what people think about the winter maintenance of Helsinki’s streets. The online survey provides an opinion on the status of sidewalks, cycle paths and carriageways, as well as outdoor and park routes to be plowed.
“Is there a place in town that you would especially like to thank or criticize?” the city bulletin asks.
Data will be collected on the success of winter maintenance specifically this winter, ie in the period 2021–2022.
“Despite the additional equipment, maintenance has not been able to meet the demands of the changing weather throughout the city quickly enough, and the streets have been in unfortunate poor condition in places,” the city regrets.

If you want to provide detailed feedback that requires immediate action, the city will ask you to send a message to the feedback channel hel.fi/feedback.
The snowy winter arrived in Helsinki when the Valtteri storm brought almost 20 centimeters of snow to the city. The main streets were repaired quickly, but on the residential streets you had to wait longer for plowing.
In winter During this time, 80,000 snow loads have been taken to the reception sites, which is much more than in the normal winter. At most, more than 5,400 snow loads were driven in one day.
The snow was measured at most on February 22: the result was 69 centimeters at the Kumpula measuring point and 38 centimeters at Kaisaniemi.
Winter maintenance has also been hampered by the alternation of frost and shelter. The heat has melted the snow, and the frost that followed has frozen the fairways slippery.
In Helsinki, the main roads, public transport streets and the most important pedestrian and cycling routes will be cleaned first. After that, we move on to the residential streets.
