“No amount of talent, training, or effort can offset the natural physical advantages that men have over women. It is simply a fact of human biology. Forcing women to compete against men is the opposite of inclusion and absolutely unfair“.
These were the words expressed in a statement by Kim Reynolds, governor of Iowa, who enacted a bill banning transgender girls and women from playing on women’s sports teams school character.
This decision, which was made on Thursday, came into effect immediately.

‘According to sex at birth’
According to an analysis carried out by the American news network ‘CBS’, the law stipulates that, during sporting events sponsored by educational institutions that have some kind of affiliation with the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) and NAIA sports associations (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics); the teams to which the students are assigned -female, male or mixed- depend entirely of the sex with which they were born, that is, the one that appears on their birth certificates.
I am concerned that this bill is necessary
In the case of women, only athletes with official birth certificates that indicate them as such will be able to compete in sports for women or girls.
Reynolds interprets this new legislation as a victory for women’s sports in Iowa, as she seeks “promote women’s equality“.

“As a woman, a mother of three daughters, and now a grandmother of three girls, I am concerned that this bill is necessary. (…) It’s hard to imagine how someone who cares about the rights of women and girls could support anything lessReynolds said at the bill’s signing ceremony on Thursday.
The response of the LGTBQ+ groups
On the contrary, the organization for the defense of the rights of the LGTBQ+ community Human Rights Campaign expressed its disagreement with the decision and He asked that the historical protections against discrimination for the people who are part of this historically vulnerable minority not be undermined.
“Like anti-equality politicians across the country, Governor Reynolds is targeting some of the most vulnerable members of society to rally support with extreme factions of her base during an election year.“JoDee Winterhof, senior vice president of the Human Rights Campaign, said in a statement.
