Strong performances also arouse great interest. VfB sports director Sven Mislintat knows that only too well. There are also rumors about Tanguy Coulibaly. The French should be on the BVB list. What’s wrong with the transfer rumor?
Tanguy Coulibaly is part of the ‘Junge Wilde 2.0’ at VfB Stuttgart. The 19-year-old Frenchman came to Swabia from PSG’s youth in 2019 and made the breakthrough after a difficult second division season after promotion.
Above all, Coulibaly convinces with its versatility. VfB coach Pellegrino Matarazzo has already used the youngster in the current season as an outside player in front of the back three, as an outside striker and even in the center of the attack. Coulibaly has made 14 appearances (two goals) so far, eight times in the starting line-up. Most recently, however, the Frenchman was mostly only used as a joker.
Nevertheless, the good performance should have aroused interest. VfB sports director recently said that kickerthat VfB was “extremely attractive” – and related this statement to possible winter departures. Above all, attacker Nicolas Gonzalez is associated with some top clubs.
But something is happening at Coulibaly too. France Football from France reports that Borussia Dortmund have focused on the 19-year-old. The football magazine is generally considered to be a fairly reputable source. So what is behind the alleged BVB interest?
The fact is that Coulibaly has a long-term contract in Stuttgart until 2023. Its current market value is from transfermarkt.de estimated at a mere two million euros. The trend here is rapidly increasing.
From VfB’s point of view, however, there is little risk of an exit in winter. BVB is more likely not to strike in the winter transfer market. Rather, the rumors about a switch to black and yellow relate to the coming summer. Because then the departure of Jadon Sancho could be imminent, Borussia would need a replacement accordingly.
Rumors about Coulibaly should therefore make perfect sense. However, they should not be really concrete at the moment. Rather, it is easy to imagine that the young Frenchman is one of the possible candidates on the BVB list. However, this list is likely to be quite long at the moment. In addition to Coulibaly, Man City talent Jayden Braaf was most recently traded.
Conclusion: VfB Stuttgart currently doesn’t have to worry about a Coulibaly farewell. The contract is still valid for two and a half years, BVB’s interest could only become more concrete in the summer. Until then, however, a lot of time will pass when the rumor mill about a possible Sancho successor is simmering. The fact that Coulibaly is at the top of the Dortmund candidate list is rather doubtful. From the player’s point of view, staying in Stuttgart would make more sense anyway. After all, Coulibaly has to keep fighting to be more regular from the start.
