VR announced on Friday morning that it would suspend the Allegro train from Monday 28 March after the Minister of Corporate Governance Tytti Tuppurainen (sd) sent a letter to VR on Thursday stating that it was no longer appropriate to operate the train.

Air traffic between Finland and Russia was cut off when Russia invaded Ukraine. According to Tuppurainen, Allegro’s services were continued, among other things, because Finns living in Russia were able to return to Finland by train.

“It can now be seen that the situation with regard to Allegro has changed, and the continuation of Allegro traffic is no longer appropriate from the point of view of the state owner,” Tuppurainen said in justifying the suspension of Allegro’s operations.
