Dramatic scenes continue to play out in western Germany. Pictures show the full extent of the disaster. 1300 people are currently missing.
Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler / Bruchsal – The consequences of the flood disaster in Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia are dramatic. The emergency services fight for the lives of the people without a break and try to limit the extent of the flood, which has already been dubbed the flood of the century. According to current reports, over 1,000 members of the police, fire brigade, Bundeswehr, THW, DRK and many other disaster control units in Germany are in action. Further help was requested, including above all medical and transport units as well as even more Bundeswehr forces.
Rhineland-Palatinate: Floods hit Ahrweiler particularly badly
The district of Ahrweiler suffers severely from the consequences of the flood disaster. In the Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler district, 1,300 people are currently missing, and according to the spokeswoman for the district administration, there are more fatalities to complain about – but exact numbers were not given. It was also confirmed that the cellular network had collapsed, which meant that many people could not be reached. We are currently working intensively on restoring the basic supply – i.e. repairing the water, electricity and gas supply. The schools should remain closed in the meantime. Around 3500 people are currently housed in care facilities throughout the district.
Flood disaster in Rhineland-Palatinate: More emergency services on the way
From Bruchsal, a town in Baden-Württemberg near Karlsruhe, 200 emergency services with 100 ambulances have now made their way to the affected regions around Ahrweiler in Rhineland-Palatinate. The country’s interior ministry had requested the additional support. They will help move patients from hospitals, nursing homes, and other facilities. The city of Bruchsal announced this. At the moment we can only hope that there will be no more heavy rains and that the emergency services will be able to provide help successfully.
Shocking news from Sinzig (Ahrweiler district): Any help came too late for a home for the disabled. The tide of the flood was too rapid and, according to recent reports, kills twelve. (fh) * Merkur.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
