“Tragic crash” Extremely bad accident, a woman dies instantly, her husband is serious: where and what happened

Yesterday afternoon, April 12th, at Palermo, Anna Maria La Gattuta, a 60-year-old restorer of ancient books, lost her life following a bad car accident. The woman was with her husband, of whom only her initials are known, MC, sixty years old and employee of the Municipality of Monreale.

L'accident it happened in ways that may seem trivial or not very dangerous, but the bad luck and the nature of the impact meant that in this event there was a victim, precisely the 60-year-old from Palermo. While they were both aboard one scooter they were hit by a van.

The accident occurred between Piazzetta delle Vittime and Piazza San Giovanni Decollato, a few steps from the police station. According to what was reported by 'Palermo Today', the van involved in the accident was in front of the scooter and, in reverse gearsuddenly hit the two-wheeler.

Due to the impact, La Gattuta and her husband fell on the asphalt and immediately reported serious injuries. However, the fall and impact were more serious than expected. The van, in fact, was coming, albeit in reverse, from a slope, which made the collision with the scooter much more damaging. Despite the immediate intervention of the emergency medical service, attempts to save the woman were in vain. The man was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The road section of the Sicilian capital in question, located between Piazzetta delle Vittime and Piazza San Giovanni Decollato, is characterized by a slope. The driver of the van claimed to have lost control of the vehicle due to a brake malfunction.

Municipal police Accident Officers are currently investigating the incident exact dynamics of the accident, while the vehicles involved were seized for further investigations. Toxicological tests were also ordered on the two drivers in order to clarify further conditions of those who were driving the van. Recently another accident was also fatal for another motorcyclist, again due to a collision with a large means of transport.
